Let's talk equipment

Having your own gym at home is one of the best investments you can make! This page was designed to point you in the right direction as far as purchasing equipment goes. These tips and tricks I have learned through the years will hopefully be a blessing to you in saving you time searching!

Tip #1 - FB first

Why pay for new items if you don't need to? Also keep your eye out for gyms and fitness centers going out of business! Those can be great places to find good stuff when you see that.

Tip #2 - Look for good brands

Brands to look for: Rogue, Titan Fitness, CAP, and many more are good too.

Tip #3 - Shoot for olympic weights

Try to get olympic weightlifting standard weights (example: 44 lb kettlebell) if you wanted to be very technical with CrossFit standards. This is totally optional - any weight you can find is still better than nothing! Look on the Rogue website for reference with all of their standard weights.

Tip #4 - Some times new is better

I have found that CAP dumbbells are pretty affordable on Amazon and are usually a similar price to what people charged on Marketplace for their used ones. So why not get new ones!?

Tip #5 - Go for variety vs. quantity

How to make your equipment stretch as far as you can…get a variety of different items! If you start with 20 pound dumbbells, don’t get a 25 pound set next but instead go for a wall ball or kettlebell as an example. Good CrossFit workouts have at least 2 different modalities usually so my advice would be to strive for variety rather than volume. Then as you get stronger, size up to heavier weights!

Tip #6 - Celebrate & use it!

If you DO get any new equipment, tell me so I can add it to your future workouts! Happy searching!

Rule of thumb for equipment picking:

A good deal on dumbbells should be about $1 per pound and bumper plates at $2 per pound. Anything outside of that could be the person asking too much!
